Individual Assistance Program
|
Nebraska and Southwest Iowa.
As mentioned in my communication on April 7th, the Individual Assistance Program has been available for over a month now to qualifying families and individuals. The Red Cross determines the level of financial assistance – recognizing that each disaster has its own unique challenges and circumstances – from the number of households affected in the impacted area to the amount of resources available to meet those needs. Eligible households include those whose, 1) Primary pre-disaster residence was located in one of the impacted zones (proof that the applicant is the legal owner of lessee is required, and 2) Primary pre-disaster residence was destroyed or sustained major damage from the 2019 flood as verified by the Red Cross. Our disaster caseworkers have been present at every MARC (Multi-Agency Resource Center) to discuss financial assistance to those who are eligible.
The deadline for qualifying individuals to apply for this assistance is Thursday, May 9th.
Through information obtained from FEMA applications, Red Cross caseworkers are working tirelessly to contact over 1,200 qualified individuals for $450 cash assistance before the deadline occurs this week. We are sending multiple text messages in hopes of contacting all of these eligible clients. We would greatly appreciate your partnership in assisting us with reaching out to those in your community who may qualify for this additional help.
How the program works: The qualified individual will receive a text message saying they are eligible to receive our financial assistance. They simply click on the link or call the number listed in the message. The client will receive an enrollment number. Once approved by the Red Cross, they will receive an award number. The client then takes the award number to their local Walmart store in order to receive their $450 in cash. If the cashier is unaware of this program, the client should ask for the manager who will then guide them through the process.
The most recent updated infographic and summary of our service delivery since the bomb cyclone occurred on March 13th is attached for your review. We are so grateful for all the support our partners provided our organization during this relief operation. Please know I will continue to be available to you as we continue to march forward and help our communities recover at Rachelle.Lipker@RedCross.org
