    Facilities General Maintenance Worker

    Buffalo County Facilities currently has a position open for a general maintenance worker. Experience in building maintenance and/or commercial construction is preferred, but we are willing to train the right person.

    General Purpose
    Perform work involving general, electrical, plumbing and/or HVAC maintenance and repair of County buildings and grounds, which may also include, but is not limited to, the installation and maintenance of equipment and utilities, and some remodel/new construction. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High school education or equivalent is preferred. Some advanced education and/or skills training is strongly preferred.
    • Thorough knowledge of methods, materials and techniques utilized in general building maintenance and/or general commercial construction is required.
    • Ability to safely operate some machinery is preferred, such as mowers, skidsteer, forklift, etc.
    • Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions, and ability to work efficiently and complete duties with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Ability to establish and maintain positive rapport with supervisors, fellow employees and the general public while presenting a positive image for the County.
    • Applicants must be able to comply with all physical requirements as required by the position and must pass a background check.
    • Applicants must possess a valid Nebraska Driver's License and be eligible to be insured under the County's insurance policies.

    Wages

    • This position is a non-exempt position.
    • Starting wage will be $17.00 - $25.00 per hour, depending upon qualifications.
    • Comprehensive benefit package including retirement.

    Buffalo County has an opening for a candidate, who is appointed by the Board of Commissioners, to serve on the Buffalo County Planning and Zoning Commission and the Buffalo County Board of Adjustment for a three (3) year term. If interested, please complete The Application for Appointment.

Public Defender

Elected Position in Buffalo County:
4 year termscales of justice

Salary:
Set by Buffalo County Board of Commissioners.

Deputies:
Appointed as needed by elected Public Defender subject to approval of County Board.

Full Time Position:
Determined by statutes in larger counties; by County Board in Buffalo County. 

Fees:
May not accept any compensation for representing Public Defender Clients except for salary plus cost reimbursement from County.

Duties:
Represent all indigent, Defendants charged with felonies and misdemeanors, if penalty for crime carries possible jail time.

Court determines if Defendant can financially hire his own attorney or is indigent. If indigent the Court appoints. The Public Defender's office may not represent as Public Defender prior to Court appointment.

Represent all Persons brought before the Mental Health Board as dangerous to self or others.

Represent Fugitives from Justice and/or Extradition Defendant's if appointed by the Court.

Qualifications:
Must be licensed to practice law in Nebraska.

Budget:
Elected official must submit an annual budget to be approved by the County Board.
